Violator Radio Unkut linked up with the legendary DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia for a raw conversation about his latest music, collaborations, and the grind it takes to stay on top after decades in the game.
Fresh off the release of his new single “You Haulin’” featuring Big Boogie, DJ Paul broke down how the collab came together.
“My brother was doing art for him, and he told me Boogie was a fan of mine. I told him I was a fan of his too, so I said, man, I got the perfect song. Let’s go.”
The track, a Memphis-to-Memphis connection, carries Paul’s signature synths and bass-heavy production while letting Big Boogie do what he does best: bring the energy for the ladies. Paul confirmed there’s more music on the way, hinting at a solo album dropping around Halloween after years of releasing singles.
DJ Paul on Jelly Roll’s Come Up
Paul also took time to reflect on discovering Jelly Roll alongside Lil’ Wyte back in 2009:
“We brought out an album with Lil’ Wyte, Jelly Roll, and a guy named B.P. called SNO. Me and Jelly got close—he could come up with hooks so easy, so fast, whether it was rap or singing. Dude was hard. We stayed cool over the years, and he’s killing it now.”
Behind the Hits
Beyond Three 6 Mafia classics, Paul reminded fans he’s been behind some of hip-hop’s biggest records, including producing UGK & Outkast’s “International Players Anthem” and writing the hook for J. Cole’s “No Role Modelz.”
The Hustle That Matters
Asked what he looks for in new artists, Paul kept it blunt:
“If they’re paying, I don’t look for much—but it still gotta be dope. If there’s no money involved, I want to see hustle. Character sells more than good music these days. You gotta work the records, be active on social media, and not be lazy.”
He even shared that he’s helped 14- and 15-year-old artists overseas turn hustle into millions of streams with minimal budgets, proving that grind and consistency matter more than giant marketing checks.
What’s Next
DJ Paul’s remix with Big Boogie is just the beginning of what promises to be a stacked fourth quarter for the Memphis icon. Fans can expect a full project soon, with Paul hinting that Halloween might be the perfect time for the drop.
